Cost of Living

What does it cost for an expat to live in Kenya?
Depends on a lot of factors of course, but my colleague Lia gave some estimates:
-Housing in Kilmani neighborhood for a single person is about $400/month plus $50 utilities.
(Obviously can spend a lot more. At the very high end, a 5 bedroom very modern townhouse in a gated community in Karen would be $3400/month).
-Groceries at big fancy supermarket are similar to USA prices, slightly cheaper.
-Very nice steak dinner at a top Nairobi restaurant would be $20. Normal takeout from a Westernized restaurant is $10 or so. Regular Kenyan restaurants are far less expensive.
-Taxi obviously depends on distance. A fairly long commute from Kilmani to Bridge HQ is $12. A Matatu (privately owned minibus) is $1 or less but not advised after dark.
